Brain Injuries

New research suggests even small hits to the head may lead to brain deterioration over time. A recent article in National Geographic magazine highlights research performed at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, involving college football players and brain trauma. The research links head trauma with behavioral and cognitive changes similar to those seen in Alzheimer’s patients. One common form of traumatic brain injury is a concussion. During a concussion, “the brain is injured via shaking or hitting the skull, causing symptoms such as headache, dizziness, and difficulty concentrating.” These injuries can be painful and even debilitating; Minnesota Twins first baseman Justin Morneau is a high-profile example. See the entire article at: http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2011/02/big-idea/concussions-text.

Unfortunately, the above-mentioned symptoms are all too common following car crashes or other motor vehicle accidents during which someone suffers a head injury. These types of head injuries (concussion and other traumatic brain injuries) prevent people from working, performing daily tasks, and even from displaying their normal behavior. The attorneys at Johnston Martineau, P.L.L.P., represent those with traumatic brain injuries and work to win them compensation.
